About Us

We've Pursued the Same Goal Since the Beginning

We are a small company dedicated to bringing to the marketplace the voices of Australia who cannot get a break with ‘Big Publishing’.

PB Publishing’s principal, Phillipa Butler, is a journalist of 35 years’ experience. She has worked for Australian newspapers including The Age and Sunday Age and The Canberra Times, and has undertaken freelance work for groups as diverse as CSIRO, UNICEF, the University of Melbourne, Monash University, MIM Mining, Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation (Melbourne), business colleges and tourism ventures.

Her expertise extends from writing through to design and production and includes appointments as deputy chief sub-editor at The Age and production editor at Australian Rural Times (Rural Press/Fairfax). In a diverse career she has written across the spectrum, from technical scientific articles to subjects including education, the law, agriculture and human interest, as well as designing and laying out various newspapers.

In 2010 she wrote her first book, Haystacks & Hellfire, which was nominated for Heritage Victoria’s Community History Awards.

A book by one of PB Publishing’s writers, Louise Evans (Passage to Pusan), won international praise and was made into a joint South Korea/Australia documentary. Another, by Bruce Dudon (Leave Early. And If You Can’t…), formed the basis of an ABC fire-preparedness podcast in 2024.

PB Publishing has a network of associates in areas of special expertise, and employs graphic designers to ensure unique book covers for each author.
